Apparently it has been seven months since I’ve last posted here. I’m not sure where that time went as things are going at rapid pace lately… I suppose that’s how it goes with two toddler boys keeping me busy. I do a much better job at posting on Instagram, so let’s connect there! I really owe you an entire post on life lately – work, my boys, running, balance – but for today I’ll keep to the topic: helping my boys stay healthy with all those germs out there.
My boys are both in daycare and my husband is a teacher. That alone exposes my family to lots of sickness. Basically you can go to the grocery store and catch a cold, so I like to do everything in my power to help my boys stay healthy and boost their immune systems. Here are my tips and tricks. We all do what works best for our family and this is just what has helped mine (A LOT!).
I started using doTERRA essential oils about a year ago. I got into them because I was really sick… which is another story. I’ve touched on the vestibular disorder that I was hit with last year, but I promise to share the full story soon. So, I was looking for a holistic approach to help my body heal. I was…desperate. Yes, that word is completely accurate. What I didn’t anticipate was how getting myself started using essential oils would go on to support the health of my family. Using essential oils is super simple, but when you’re first getting started you may feel lost. No fear, there is an amazing community out there for help and support so I was comforted by that fact immediately. Suddenly, diving in was no big deal. I’m ranting…that’s what happens when I talk about essential oils. Ok, here’s what I do to help my family (and myself) every single day.
I have a diffuser in each of the bedrooms.
This is a fantastic way to purify the air and kill the germs. It also has an emotional quality that is wonderful. My boys are often rowdy before bed and having their diffusers going just sets the tone. There are so many oils and blends that I could diffuse, but OnGuard (the Protective Blend) and Breathe (the Respiratory Blend) are two of my favorites. I’m also obsessed with Holiday Peace right now. It truly uplifts my mood and creates a serene environment…and it smells dreamy. Holiday Peace is made of Siberian Fir, Grapefruit Peel, Douglas Fir, Himalayan Fir, Frankincense, and Vetiver Root. My house may be a mess with piles of dishes and laundry to be done, but you better believe those diffusers are putting out happy + healthy vibes.
I apply oils (diluted) to the bottoms of my boys’ feet.
This is how I get the oils in their bodies to boost their immune systems and keep them thriving. This isn’t to say that my boys don’t get sick, but when they do I have a natural toolkit to support them. I love Melaleuca (Tea Tree Oil) because it is anti-viral and anti-bacterial (among other things) so it fights that sickness. Ear infections, colds, congestion…I turn to Melaleuca to help my boys heal. Lemon with Melaleuca is even better. Lemon fights that congestion!! Breathe blend helps when they have a cough or congestion. OnGuard boosts their immune systems. Lavender and Peppermint are fever reducers. DigestZen blend and Peppermint help with stomach discomfort. The list goes on… Using oils to help my boys is so empowering!
My husband and I take supplements/oils internally.
My husband and I take supplements with essential oils and will drink a cold/flu bomb (2 drops of each Lemon, Melaleuca, Lavender, Peppermint in a glass of water) when we feel like we’re getting sick or already are sick. The OnGuard softgels are awesome for boosting our immune systems too. Oregano is used when big sickness hits…it’s a powerful one! Frankincense is all things healing. Deep Blue helps with achy muscles and joints. I’ve been taking supplements for the last year with essential oils to help my body completely heal from that vestibular disorder.
Basically, we use diffusers in our home and doTERRA essential oils daily. Remember, quality REALLY matters. The oils have to be pure, genuine, authentic and without any synthetic junk! Using these essential oils has been a game changer. I’m all about food as medicine as well, but that’s for another day. My advice is start with a diffuser in your room, diffuse something like Citrus Bliss (=happiness), and drink a smoothie. I dare you not to smile 😉

We’ve got a lot more catching up to do. I promise I’ll be back soon! I’ve missed my little space and connecting with you.
