I’m back with another update for my smiley baby. He truly lights up a room. Some of my favorite moments are when I greet him in the morning and right before bedtime. He gives me a big smile as he registers my face. Before bed he’ll sometimes stop eating so he can basically just smile and giggle in my arms. It’s pure happiness and makes me laugh. He smiles so big when he sees his daddy. Sage loves that he can get a reaction out of him. The other day Emerson was moving his arm and Sage said, “high five!”. He thought it was just about the best thing ever.
There’s been a lot of change this month. For starters, I went back to work. It has been a fairly smooth transition. I was nervous about Emerson in daycare at first (new place), but after the first week I felt so much better. I’m told he’s such a good baby and I can tell the ladies love him. Makes it much easier going to work.
Here’s what else has been going on with my littlest man!
Likes: Emerson loves to sit in his vibrating chair and swat at the hanging monkey and frog. He can now grab them which surprised me! He looks so determined and then grabs that monkey. He still enjoys being in his stroller and going on walks. This month we tried out the baby carrier more. I put him in it facing me and as long as he can see my face he’s pretty happy. Stroller is still a bigger hit though. He also loves being in mommy’s or daddy’s arms and chatting us up. He’s starting to chat with Sage too which is just too precious for words. His play mat has been getting more use because Emerson just started rolling on his side. He swings those legs in the air and works his way all around the mat.
Eating: Big strides here… Emerson was refusing a bottle up until three days before I was due back to work (I was in freak out mode!). So, my husband and I decided that Saturday we’d only offer him the bottle. This also would give me a chance to practice my pumping schedule for the work days. Emerson was not a happy guy when my husband offered that first bottle. He put up a fight for a solid half hour, finally drank a little, then passed out and took a nap. It got easier with each bottle that day and I just made a point to keep my distance. By Sunday night he was taking a bottle like a pro. He’s now even had a few bottles from me. Hurray!
He drinks 3-4 five ounce bottles of breast milk at daycare. I nurse him between 4-6am (depends when his wake up is) and then at dinner time and right before bed. I think I’m going to have to up the ounces in his bottles soon though. Growing boy! Two nights ago he was up twice and daycare told me he was eating a ton so he was definitely going through a growth spurt.
Sleeping: Naps are all over the place, but there’s generally three each day between 30-90 minutes. We start Emerson’s bedtime routine at 6:45ish: bath, jammies, cuddle time, feeding. I try to be done feeding him by 7:30pm so I can then say goodnight to Sage. I put Emerson in his crib, swaddle him with the Halo sleep sack, turn up the white noise, and say goodnight. The last few nights he’s been sleeping from about 7:30pm to 5am. This is AMAZING to me. Emerson is totally showing off and I’m loving it.
Playing: As mentioned above, Emerson loves his play mat and vibrating chair. He’s loving toys much more now and any tot he can grab onto.
Highlights: At Emerson’s wellness checkup at the beginning of the month he weighed 12 pounds, 4 ounces and was 24 inches long. He’s a tall boy! This I knew because he basically skipped over size 3 month clothes. He’s solidly in 6 month clothes. Emerson has been all over town this month. We had lunch at Cheesecake Factory over the weekend and he did great. Drank some bottle and chilled next to daddy.
Emerson, we are so lucky you’re ours!
